You have to admire anyone with the courage to take on a DS restoration at home! This site belongs to Andrew Todd a 24-year-old web developer in Manchester, England. He discusses his very impressive rebuild of a 1972 DS23 IE Pallas. Lots of photos, and he documents costs! A must read for anyone contemplating tackling a D!
Andrew Todd’s UK website covers the restoration of a DS23. Click on the left topics and you will see detailed photos of its progress along with thoughtful descriptions of the process.
Think there were only two Presidential SM’s in existence? Think again. Here’s a link to Bata Group, a Citroen Restoration company in Serbia. Click on the SM Presidentielle 3 button. They carefully scrutinized the two SM’s made by Henri Chapron for the French Government in the early 1970’s and were able to produce another copy. This site, though extensive, is a little difficult to navigate (due to some rather weird Flash authoring). Despite that, check out the many other Citroen restorations they have done, in particular D models.
CAC member Jim Sciberas gave me a head’s-up to this site that has wonderful documentation to unbelievably thorough Citroën restorations. Simply amazing!! DS’s are transformed with surgical precision. Witness the restoration of a 1956 DS19 (serial number 000425) that was purchased at ICCCR 2002 in Amherst, MA and exported back to Europe. I guarantee your jaw will drop in awe!! I’m not sure how the site loads on a PC, but I can tell you that I could not load it on my Mac running Microsoft Explorer. In fact it locked it up Explorer completely. But, force quitting the app then switching to Safari, (Apple’s OSX net browsing software), worked just fine! Click away and enjoy! And thanks for the link Jim!
Restoring your Cit? This site gives you 31 sources (in French) to find that all too rare part. Look to the left index and click on Les Restaurateurs.
This site is called Restaureend and it belongs to a Dutch couple, Eugene and Rian Pallandt. They thoroughly documented a very nice restoration of their AK 400 truckette. Although Dutch in origin, the majority of this site is also in English. Check out their lovely D Special as well. And the color chart section for the AK and Mehari, with links to AMI and Dyane colors, is a nice bonus!
Sergei Didyk documented, in great detail, his four year home based restoration of a DS23 in Tallinn, Estonia. It’s a fascinating account of hard work and ingenuity. Well worth a look if you are contemplating diving into a D.
